History
The Evolution of Tribal Veda Heritage
- 1970 – K. Datta & Co. was founded in Howrah, Kolkata, India under the Khadi Commission to manufacture handmade cotton paper.
- 1990 – The unit paused operations due to global competition and political instability in West Bengal.
- 2020 – Supratim Datta and Suman Samanta revived the paper legacy through Retrouvilles.in, launching a handmade product brand.
- 2021 – The brand gained momentum by supplying to Chumbak, Emami Art, and exporting through Etsy and global fairs.
- 2022 – Deep artisan engagement began across India, highlighting the need for finished product focus and cultural storytelling.
- 2023 – The idea of Tribal Veda was conceptualized as a blend of homestays, retreats, and design-led tribal products.
- 2024 – Extensive groundwork and site research were carried out in tribal regions including Purulia.
- 2025 – Tribal Veda Heritage LLP was incorporated on 12th March as a DPIIT-recognized startup, with its first 9,900 sq. ft. homestay site leased near Bamni Falls, Purulia.

Tribal Veda Heritage LLP is a DPIIT-recognized social enterprise rooted in the forests and foothills of Purulia, West Bengal, combining tribal wisdom, handmade artistry, and sustainable practices to create generational prosperity for India’s tribal artisan communities.​
Incorporated on March 12, 2025, and built on the legacy of K. Dutta & Co. (established 1970), the organization works directly with approximately 300 artisans—80% from Scheduled Tribe communities including Santals and Sabars—providing training, market access, and fair livelihoods through handmade paper products, traditional crafts, experiential homestays, and cultural workshops.

1. Handcrafted Products
Premium, export-ready artisan products crafted by tribal communities—including handmade paper goods, natural-dyed textiles, ceramic art, traditional masks, Kashi grass crafts, and paper lamps that preserve ancestral techniques while meeting international quality standards.​​
2. Cultural Home-stays
Immersive village homestays where travelers experience authentic tribal life, stay with artisan families, share meals, and participate in daily rhythms—creating dignified income streams while preserving cultural heritage and fostering cross-cultural understanding.​​
3. Immersive Experiences
Hands-on workshops, cultural performances, traditional craft demonstrations, and experiential learning programs that connect participants with tribal wisdom, artisan skills, and the landscapes of Purulia—from Chau mask painting to natural dyeing and papermaking.​​
4. Skills Training & Capacity Building
Comprehensive training programs for tribal artisans in design innovation, quality standards, screen printing, business skills, and market readiness—ensuring communities gain sustainable livelihoods and economic independence through mastery of traditional and contemporary techniques.​​
Together, these four pillars create a holistic ecosystem that transforms tribal craftsmanship into generational prosperity while preserving cultural heritage and environmental sustainability.

- Officially acknowledged under the Government of India’s Startup India initiative for creating measurable social impact through tribal upliftment.
- Our first financial backing came from the Pune Innovation Centre, validating our vision and supporting our groundwork in tribal development and sustainable tourism.
- Shortlisted for Tribal Business Conclave 2025 – A national platform by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, DPIIT, Ministry of Culture, FICCI, and Startup India
